Where last year, Hulst assured us that PlayStation would always receive the best version of Sony's games at launch, now he's admitting that actually won't be the case after all.
So basically, once again, Sony's narrative on PC has changed in 2022 from what it was in 2021, which itself had changed from what it was in 2020, which had changed from what it was in 2019 (before they had decided to start courting PC gamers). This isn't like if Mario, Zelda and Pokemon were also on Steam. But as long as they have the enormous third party support, their first party exclusives coming out on PC doesn't really matter. If Sony lacked the third party support Nintendo usually suffers from (post-SNES, and the Switch has done way better but still lacks most releases) and we're trying to sell just on Uncharted, GoW, TLOU and the odd Ratchet and Clank and GT, I really think they'd be left in the dust each gen. Not even sure what were first party exclusives back then.
I mean, three of my favourite PS1 third party "exclusives" are FFVII (came out the same year on PC, pretty sure), MGS (2 years later or was on PC) and Resident Evil (just a few months later was on PC).
Has PlayStation always done well due to exclusives? Especially first party ones, which this is about? I'd say that's true for Nintendo but PlayStation seems to be more about a huge breadth of games that Nintendo lacks but (arguably) makes up for with legendary exclusives.
